Stewardship: More Than Money
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:11)

Many Christians have a narrow concept of Stewardship. They relate it to offering appeals and the giving of money to the church. Biblical stewardship may include the giving of tithes and offerings, but it is much bigger than that!  Stewardship is centered in a relationship with Almighty God. It acknowledges God as creator and recognizes that He is the owner of everything. For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.  "If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness! Psalm 50:10-12  (NKJV)

True stewardship accepts Jesus Christ, not only as Savior, but also as the Lord of our life. God loves us with an unconditional love. He revealed His love for us “while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (NKJV)  The bottom line for me is that God created us, loved us, and expressed that love through His sacrifice on the cross. My response is to love him back by accepting His provision for my salvation. I demonstrate my love for God through obedience and faithful stewardship! God has abundantly blessed us. He has entrusted us with time, talents, resources, and much more. Our response is, to be a faithful steward, to do our best in managing what God has provided for us!

Stewardship is more than money! However, it certainly includes faithfulness in tithes and offerings! Our checkbook reveals the condition of our spiritual lives. It exposes the affection of our hearts. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:11  (NKJV)  “If the hearts of God's people were filled with love for Christ; if every church member were thoroughly imbued with the Spirit of self-sacrifice; if all manifested thorough earnestness, there would be no lack of funds for home or foreign missions.” — Ellen G.
